WP 4. Excavated Danish Battle Axe 10th-11th Cent. AD.
Massive and recently excavated Danish Battle Axe with lateral ears and applied cutting edge. This is the famous two handed Axe that could “Hew a man in twain”. The Bayeaux Tapestry shows Saxon Thanes on foot wielding these axes against charging cavalry. Textbook example in remarkable condition, most likely a river find. Ca. 10th-11th Cent. AD.
